Who are "Telling Lies"? Good question, and as with a lot of bands not the easiest question to answer. I guess it all started over 20 years with a band called Cubiq (not the German one) in Whangarei, where as a four piece we focused on writing and practicing our own music. It all pretty much came to a halt when I relocated to Hawkes Bay around 2006, however around 2016/17 I put a 3-piece together called "I Tell Lies "with Francois O'Kennedy (Bass) and Dean Giddons (Drums) to play my songs (we were all playing in a covers band - Soundintention, later renamed to Crazy Talk after some line-up changes). At the end of 2019 Dean decided to leave due to work commitments, and we've had a few more line up changes since.

When we came to launch our fist album, somebody beat us to the punch and had released under the name "I Tell Lies", much to my annoyance, hence the name change.

So who are "Telling Lies"? I guess we're still figuring that one out.

Well nothing goes to plan. Despite best efforts to get the next recording with all band members, it hasn't quite worked out that way, so have resorted to a predominantly solo effort with Pat singing leading vocal on some tracks. The good news is that two new albums have hit a streaming site near you. The second release, "Analogue Eyes for a Digital Mind", has more of a classic rock feel, and includes some older songs that we have been playing live for a while. The third release, "The House of Many Colours" is a bit different, and probably needs a few listens to get into. The majority of the songs have been written this year. As for where the band is going next, who knows, probably another rebirth, but I'll keep recording regardless. Watch this space. (Greg Lovell Dec 2025)
